Monday, January 16, 2012: Final Thoughts

Finally, I finish attempting to summarize our cruise experience.  I really don't think anyone can put into words how special our time is together.  You just have to follow along, read the script and look at the pictures and feel the love!  I can only hope and pray that other families, or groups of people, can experience what we do.  It amazes me 9 completely different people can join together and have the fun that we do.  Granted, there are a few moments we each have, but they are completely overlooked and overshadowed by the positive and loving attitudes we exhibit.  I think we would also all agree, whether we are together on a fantastic trip or just on the phone sharing what's going on with each of our lives, we truly feel cherished by each other and have a closeness that can't be described!

Love to each one of you Joyriders and/or Numbers...Can't wait until the next one!!!

Saturday, January 7, 2012: Last Day at Sea and Sarah's Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SARAH, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!

Sarah goes for a massage at 8:00 and we all have secretly arranged to be in our cabin at 8:45.  Little did she know we had made Tshirts for the occasion!  Of course, her massage runs late, wouldn't have been normal to be on time!!! We wait and wait and here she comes...SURPRISE!!!  She opens her presents...

And off to breakfast we go!  I couldn't believe how many people passed our table and said "Don't know which one is Sarah...but Happy Birthday!"

We had a relaxing day at the pool, taking naps, lunch at Johnny Rockets (per Sarah's request).  Everyone was sad it was our last day :(  Before leaving for dinner we were on our balcony and Mike says...look...it was dolphins!  Absolutely unbelievable!

At dinner, we asked how much of our wine package was left...Oliver says 5 bottles...no possible way...but we didn't argue - give us 5!  The waiters all sang Happy Birthday to Sarah.

We had wine with us everywhere!  The girls went to the arcade to get last prizes and brought back stickers to put on the wine bottles.  Macy had butterfly chicken pox with stickers all over her face.  Sheri, the girls and I sat outside the casino, while the others gambled and played Go Fish with some interesting cards.  Then off to Family Quest night!  Sarah, Frank, Curtis and Uncle Mike were a team.  Katy, Macy, Sheri, Ashley and I were another...we came in second!!!  One last visit to eat pizza late at night and we finally go back to our rooms...

Friday, January 6, 2012: Day at Sea

Well, Joyriders...our long trip back to Florida.  What will the next few days hold?  I start the morning with Yoga joined by Sarah and Sheri (Ashley was a little sleepy). I really enjoyed it...much more than last time, with the ship swaying and a morning after too many beverages!  Excitement was in the air for all of us...we had decided tonight would be Secret Santa gift exchange.  You would have thought it was Christmas all over again.  We really don't need to receive anymore gifts than the one that each of us gives one another...couldn't be more meaningful.

We spent the day in our secret deck area behind the flowrider.  The seas became rough for the first time and it was really windy.  No complaints from this group though...not a one of us had used an ear patch and Ashley had only taken two Dramamine the whole trip!  Sarah decides to go to Puss-N-Boots in 3D, Katy tries to find Sarah and ends up in balcony by herself, Sheri takes Macy half-way into the movie and leaves her with Sarah.  Poor Katy, watched it all by herself!

Dinner was formal night again!  I have to say, I don't think there is a better looking family onboard!  I was suspicous something was up before dinner...surprise the Joyrider's celebrated my birthday!!!  Mike gave a very sweet toast, of course I had to have a few tears...and I opened a bunch of presents.

And now...SECRET SANTA!  First we went around the table guessing who had our names.  I would say we were about 50/50 on who had figured it out.  We each loved our presents and it's amazing our specific they are to each person!  A lot of thought and love goes into each gift, even down to the creative gift wrapping.  And guess who jumped out first...ELMO!!!  Please, Elmo, don't ever get lost.. we love you!

After our fun dinner, we stopped to get a family pic and then went to the Magician. Then off to the promenade for a fun night of dancing! Of course, our journey would not be complete without starting a conga line and a monkey around Macy's neck...I lead off and the cruise director actually whispers "wait, you're stealing the show, I was getting ready to start a line, go after me!" Ha! Way to go Joyriders! Through the promenade we go with half the ship following us.

Very, very late at night...Mike got his request granted!  We danced at the Crypt!!! And we got reprimanded for having drinks on the dance floor...way to go to Joyriders!

Thursday, January 5, 2012: St. Maarten

We arrive early in the morning to St. Maarten.  I think it's my favorite port of all places.  We are suppose to be at the pier at 8:45 a.m. to leave for our excursion.  The Smith's, and unbelievably all 5 of them, are on time and waiting off the ship.  We wait and wait and then of course, I worry, that the rest of the Joyriders, particularly Numbers 1, 2, 6 and 7 are not going to make it.  I text Mike and he was in the pooper!!! The tour guide said they would wait on them, all is well! Finally, they cross the gang plank and we are ready to go!

We board out tour bus for an exciting trip "St. Maarten Beach Rendevous!" The tour guide on the bus was very informative and told us about the history of the Dutch and French sides of St. Maarten. We drove by a tiny bridge that actually separates the two sides. Our beach was on the French side, St. Martin as they call it. We had a great time, swimming, playing in the sand, walking to the other beaches where some people forgot to wear these swim trunks, lunch in an outdoor cafe with little lizards running around and just enjoying our time together

We had the opportunity on the return trip to the ship, to get off in the market area and browse for awhile.  Sarah, Sheri, Katy, Macy and I are the only takers and off we go to the market!  It was a really cool area...Katy is once again buying up braclets by the dozens...I lost count of how many she bought!  We take a ferry back across to our ship and find another market area.  Sarah and I were politely left together (I think I figured out who my secret Santa was) as Sheri and the girls go off to shop some more.  We found a fresh coconut drink stand and ordered a pina colada that was delicious!  Guess who we saw walking by...the drunk guy from pizza night...we are beginning to think he is a stalker!

We meet back up with Sheri and the girls to get on the ship, grab some towels and set up by the pool for awhile.  Katy decides to go on back to get showered.  Macy really wanted to order a smoothie to take back to the room for she and Katy...she left to go to the bar to order one while we deposited the towels.  We turned the corner on the pool deck to find her...there she was sitting at the bar, towel wrapped around her with two smoothies in front of her...signing the bar tab!!! and she gave them a dollar tip!!!!!  Precious!!!

It was 80's night and we all went to Studio B..it  was full of action and singing and dancing.

Wednesday, January 4, 2012: St. Thomas

We had decided to just spend a leisurely day in St. Thomas.  Ashley was our researcher and organizer for this port.  I was excited to look for a John Hardy ring!  We weren't schedule to arrive in St. Thomas until 11:00 a.m.  Sheri and I went for a long walk up on the pool deck and then a nice breakfast in the dining room.  Several of the Joyrider's weren't finished shopping for their secret Santa's.  Frank was still upset with the Cupcake shop on the ship for not selling him the stuffed tiger Macy had asked him for.  The tiger was a decoration and not for sale!  It was amazing watching us pull into port, the captain had to parallel park!

Our first stop was at Jewels for my ring!  They didn't have the smokey quartz I wanted and everyone agreed the one they had was too big for my fingers...the nice sales lady showed me a beautiful David Yurman ring...sold!  I loved it.  Ashley took the lead and we followed her to a newer shopping area.  (Oh, I forgot to mention, again, it was raining...but, obviously pretty insignificant in dampening our spirits or fun!) We divided up in small groups, with a meeting time to eat lunch.  Several hours later, all "numbers" were accounted for and thank goodness we had a covered cafe...it was pouring!!!  Fat Turtle was delicious!

While we were at the restaurant, Ashley spies the man that they had taken pictures with while he was passed out on the ship at Sorrentos!  Curtis and Mike could have crawled under the table...

The rain stops and we start the walk back to the ship.  Of course, that means half a dozen or more stops and potty breaks.  But, lucky for us, our numerous stops were rewarding...in the background we see a beautiful rainbow!

Last, but not least...Macy always has a surprise as to what she has stuffed in her small purse...a stingray!  Good job Ashley on being the tour guide for the day!

Once back on the ship, we decided to miss our dinner time and join up at Olive or Twist for a family game and casual dinner at the Windjammer.  Mike was testing out his new profession of bartending (remember the booth at New Year's Eve?).  A game of Apples to Apples was a blast!  We all had phone service that day, due to being in an U.S. port...Katy had used Mike's phone to post on Facebook all we had done...spell check is not to these young one's advantage!!!! Mike received several comments to his (actually Katy's) post.."did you forget how to spell, maybe it's time to come home" "Did some Haitian refugee jack your iPad?"  Katy took it in stride and laughed along with us!!!

Katy, Macy, Ashley and Sheri went to the Once Upon A Time show and the rest of us went for a wine tasting, well minus me as I was a little under the weather that evening with a belly ache!  But, when I met up with them at Vintages, the bartender (there's actually a name for wine people, but not sure what it is!) had a million glasses of wine in front of them!  He told Curtis to take a bite of the brie and taste a certain wine...Curt takes a big bite (kinda like when he ate the huge serving of horseradish on last cruise) and makes a horrible face...a big chunk of blue cheese had mistakenly been placed on his plate instead of  brie!  Of course, it got a big laugh out of everyone!

Tuesday, January 3, 2012: San Juan, Puerto Rico

We weren't schedule to arrive in San Juan until 2:00 p.m. So, another morning of sleeping in and resting.  Mike, Sarah, Katy, Macy and I went up to the bow to watch approaching San Juan.   Once again, another beautiful view sailing into port!

The captain had informed us it could take awhile for the ship to clear customs, so off we go to have some waiting to disembark.  We sat out on the promenade at the Bull and Bear...of course, having a few brews!

Sarah had researched our trip to San Juan and made our itinerary.  San Juan...here we come!  Keep in mind, all the sidewalks are markedly steep and cobblestone and narrow, making it quite difficult to maneuver a group of 9.  Oh, and did I mention it was sprinkling, soon to change to a light rain?  But, a little rain wasn't stopping us!  Our first stop was the San Juan Cathedral.

Our time was limited and we wanted to see Castillo San Felipe del Morro.  With Sarah in the lead, we walked, and walked, and walked along the steep narrow sidewalks and finally we see the fort!  It was kind of like a "Sound of Music" moment, seeing this huge fort before us past a large open area.

We explored several areas of the fort.  It really was amazing to think what others had accomplished in building it and using it to protect the harbor, so many years ago, and it was still standing.

A few stops at local shops and then to our guide's (Sarah's) restaurant of choice...The Parrot Club.  It was delicious!  Good job Sarah!

Back to the ship at the end of an adventurous day!
